Mobile Diesel Technician

Job Summary

The Diesel Technician/Mechanic – Mobile Diesel Technician/Mechanic position at Penske is focused on providing first-class service to customers requiring roadside assistance, as well as completing inspections required by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). This position involves diagnosing and repairing all types of truck maintenance issues in all weather conditions, in the safest manner possible at roadside locations, while also performing on-site inspections at our service locations.

Qualified candidates must have demonstrated experience in tractor-trailer repair, have completed the PEP certification or be eligible to obtain certification within the first six months of employment, and be proficient in using a variety of repair tools. Successful candidates must be willing to operate a Penske roadside assistance vehicle equipped with the necessary tools and supplies.

Primary Responsibilities
    • Respond promptly to roadside assistance calls and repair units by identifying and determining:
1. Parts requiring replacement;
2. Warranty-covered repairs and documenting them properly.
    • Perform diagnostics and repairs unrelated to roadside assistance calls that can be completed quickly, as needed.
    • Restock the roadside assistance vehicle with the tools, parts, tires, and any other materials required to provide efficient roadside service.
    • Perform maintenance and repairs on the roadside assistance vehicle as required.
    • Perform SAAQ inspections.
    • When not responding to roadside service calls, assist with shop repairs as directed by the supervisor.
    • Complete any other projects or tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
    • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on tractor-trailer maintenance experience required.
    • Must currently be enrolled in an apprenticeship program.
    • Must maintain membership or registration with the appropriate government regulatory bodies.
    • Candidates with a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or equivalent heavy-duty vehicle mechanical experience will be considered.
    • Specialized training in vehicle component repair and replacement is an asset.
    • Proficiency in the use of shop tools is required.
    • Valid Class 5 driver's license required.
    • Basic computer skills preferred for entering data into maintenance systems.
    • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments is required.
    • Regular, predictable, and full attendance is an essential function of this position.
    • Must be available to travel within the district as needed (customer locations, nearby geographic areas, and training sites), work the required schedule, report to the designated work location, complete a Penske employment application, and undergo a reference check.

    • Employees must frequently move about, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods throughout their shift.
    • Daily use of hands is required to grasp, reach, touch, handle, and operate tools and equipment.
    • Employees must be able to work at heights using ladders or appropriate elevated work platforms.
    • Employees must be able to work in all weather conditions.
    • Due to the frequent movement of large trucks at the worksite, employees must have adequate vision and hearing to move about safely.
    • Employees must be able to regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
