At Penske, a Level I Technician performs diagnostics, complete overhauls, adjustments, and repairs on all types of truck engines and semi-trailers. This position requires a skilled professional who can work independently with little or no supervision while completing work efficiently and on time. Additional challenging tasks and projects may be assigned by the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities
    • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance;
    • Identify warranty-covered repairs and document them on the repair order;
    • Maintain a clean and safe work area;
    • Road test vehicles as needed to diagnose the cause of malfunctions or verify proper operation;
    • Perform work independently with little or no supervision in a timely and efficient manner;
    • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments, as well as power and pneumatic tools including impact wrenches, welding equipment, hydraulic jacks, and electric hoists;
    • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components to ensure proper operation;
    • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery inspections, and lubrication of equipment and machinery;
    • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and nuts, and reassemble equipment;
    • Lift or raise trucks, buses, heavy parts, or heavy equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists;
    • Inspect and test malfunctioning equipment and listen for operating issues using diagnostic equipment such as laptops, engine analyzers, chassis diagrams, and pressure gauges;
    • Examine and adjust safety devices, loose bolts, and other safety-related components;
    • Inspect and verify component dimensions and clearances to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications;
    • Specialize in repairing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including complete equipment replacement, turbochargers, fuel systems, and more;
    • Perform other duties and projects assigned by the supervisor.



Qualifications
Requirements
    • Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience maintaining highway tractors and semi-trailers;
    • Must remain registered with the appropriate government authority as required;
    • Valid Class 3 driver's license required; Class 1 license preferred. Air brake certification or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire;
    • Ability to use all tools of the trade, including welding and diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools;
    • Basic computer skills;
    • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment;
    • Specialized training and experience in diagnosing and repairing major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, with preference given to OEM training;
    • Regular, predictable, and full attendance is an essential function of the job;
    • Candidate must be willing to travel throughout the district (customer locations, nearby geographic areas, and training sites), work the required schedule and location, complete the Penske employment application, and undergo a reference check (including previous employment and education).

    • While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, speak, and hear. The associate must also frequently use hands and arms to touch, handle, manipulate, and reach.
