Position Summary
Reporting to the Foreman, Fleet & Facilities Services the general duties of the Heavy Equipment Technician shall include but are not limited to planning, assigning and participating in the work related to troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, overhauling and maintaining the City's fleet of equipment.
Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
• Performing services on all types of City equipment, with the focus on the preventable maintenance, diagnostic work, and repair of large equipment such as graders, loaders and fire trucks as required.
• Receiving oral and written instructions on a daily basis, exercising independent judgement in modifying work procedures and communicating such changes to team members.
• Executing government inspections.
• Conducting emergency and unplanned breakdown repair, which may be a result of finding something broken during preventative maintenance.
• Providing training for the Automotive Technician, Apprentice Automotive Service Technician, Labourers, and temporary seasonal staff.
• Determining required parts, creating purchase orders, picking up parts from suppliers.
• Recording and completing all administrative procedures, such as inspections sheets, authorization forms, provincial certificate forms, time entries and service records.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyman Certificate recognized by the Province of Alberta, a valid CVIP License, and a Class 3 Driver's License with air brake endorsement. Candidates must have a minimum of 3-5 years of journeyman experience, preferably in a municipal environment, and demonstrate strong knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and safe work practices, as well as experience working with a diverse fleet of municipal equipment. Strong written communication and electronic record-keeping skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Additional qualifications such as Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification, welding certification, and experience with Worktech are considered assets.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A 5 year Driver's Abstract will be required at the time of an interview.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week; Weekdays (10 hours days, 4 days a week)
