Purpose

Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Apprentice, Light Vehicle Mechanic with a competitive hourly rate of $44.30, dependent on experience and certifications.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Mobile Maintenance (Auxiliary Equipment), this apprenticeship position provides structured trade training in the Automotive Service Technician trade under the SkilledTradesBC apprenticeship program and the applicable Collective Agreement.

The role supports the development of competencies in inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, maintaining and repairing light vehicles and support equipment at Red Chris Mine, while progressing through required technical training and qualifying work based hours toward Red Seal certification.

Perform trade-specific work under supervision to develop Red Seal competencies:

Maintain safety, compliance and site standards

Fulfill apprenticeship and training requirements

Contribute to workplace culture and community

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Automotive Service Technician apprentice with SkilledTradesBC.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver's licence (or equivalent).
  • Successful completion of the Newmont pre-employment assessment as part of the apprenticeship selection process, with demonstrated automotive mechanical aptitude supported by relevant work history or completion of a recognised Foundation program.
  • Ability to work a two-week on / two-week off rotation (14 x 12hour days).
  • Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the role in shop and field environments, including lifting, bending, working in confined spaces, and performing outdoor field repairs in all weather conditions.
  • Basic computer proficiency for diagnostic scan tools, SAP/CMMS work order entry, and LMS training systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to attend technical training blocks at institutions away from the home site (approximately seven weeks per block).
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and continuous learning.

The expected hourly rate for this role is CA$44.30 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
