About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Automotive Painter to join our collision repair team. This role goes beyond painting: you will also perform auto body repairs, glass replacement, and assist with estimating when needed. If you take pride in quality workmanship and can handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced repair environment, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities - Painting & Refinishing:

    • Mix paint, blend, and match colours to OEM specifications
    • Apply primers and repaint surfaces using brushes or spray guns
    • Mask and tape auto body surfaces in preparation for painting
    • File, grind, and sand repaired body surfaces using hand and power tools
    • Inspect finished repairs for appearance and quality of work

Auto Body & Collision Repair:

    • Review damage reports and estimates of repair cost, and plan work to be performed
    • Repair and replace front-end components, body components, doors, frames, and underbody components
    • Hammer out dents, buckles, and other defects using blocks and hammers
    • Operate soldering equipment or use plastic filler to fill holes, dents, and seams
    • Remove damaged fenders, panels, and grilles using wrenches and cutting torches; bolt or weld replacement parts into place
    • Straighten bent frames using frame and underbody pulling and anchoring equipment

Glass & Interior:

    • Repair and replace glass components such as windshields, windows, and sunroofs
    • Repair or replace interior components, such as seat frame assemblies, carpets, and floorboard insulation

Estimating & Customer Service (as needed):

    • Inspect vehicles and estimate the costs and times for repair and restoration
    • Write reports on damage and cost estimates
    • Plan and coordinate work processes with other technicians
    • Follow automobile industry safety norms and standards
    • Provide customer service, answering all inquiries and explaining the repair process
    • Follow up with insurance companies for claim-related correspondence
    • Order parts and materials
    • Maintain accurate documentation and obtain customer signatures
    • Oversee final repairs for appearance and quality

Inspection & Testing:

    • Inspect repaired vehicles and test-drive vehicles for proper handling

Qualifications:

    • Completion of secondary school is required
    • Fluent in English
    • For auto body and collision work: completion of a three- to four-year auto body and collision technician apprenticeship program, OR a combination of over three years of work experience in the trade and completion of a professional or college automotive body repair program
    • For refinishing work: completion of a two- to three-year automotive painter apprenticeship program, OR a combination of one year of work experience and a high school or college automotive painting program
    • Trade certification as an Auto Body and Collision Technician and/or Automotive Refinishing Technician where applicable (compulsory in some provinces; Red Seal endorsement an asset)
    • Auto glass industry certification is an asset for glass replacement duties
    • Experience in estimating and working with insurance companies is an asset
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
    • Own basic tools preferred but not required
