About the Job

DIESEL SERVICE TECHNICIAN - HEAVY EQUIPMENT & CRUSHING

Full-Time, Permanent | St. Clements, ON (Waterloo Region) | DZ Licence Required.

Kieswetter Excavating has been doing heavy civil work in the Waterloo Region and beyond for four generations. Earthwork, concrete, pipe installation, demolitions, aggregates - we run a serious fleet of iron, and we need the person who keeps it moving. A service diesel technician who goes where the work is and also maintains equipment in the shop.

About the Role:

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrains, and air brake systems on heavy construction equipment, crushing equipment, and commercial transport vehicles.
  • Perform planned and unplanned field service calls - on site, on time, with minimal supervision.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules in shop
  • Operate advanced diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools across multiple equipment lines.
  • Complete work orders, service records, and documentation accurately.
  • Identify parts requirements, manage your vehicle inventory, and flag issues.
  • Support equipment compliance with OHSA and Ministry of Labour inspection standards.
  • Collaborate with operators, project managers, and estimators.

Not needed - but nice to have experience in:

  • Setting up the spread so the plant runs the way it needs to run for what they're making.
  • Working through production problems with the client - not just what's broken, but what's getting in the way of the product they need.
  • Explaining what you're seeing in plain language, so the client can make decisions with good information.
  • Building the kind of working relationship that brings clients back to us.

Who We're Looking For:

Required:

  • 421A (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician), or Red Seal certification - licensed or actively completing apprenticeship.
  • Valid DZ licence - Class D with Z air brake endorsement required.
  • Solid working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical/electronic systems, and air brake systems.
  • Experience with diagnostic software.
  • Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Ability to work independently in the field - you're organized, you communicate, you manage your time without someone looking over your shoulder.
  • Able to work directly with clients on their sites and represent us well while you're there.
  • Genuine safety mindset - you follow lockout/tagout, you do pre-use inspections, and you don't take shortcuts around moving equipment.

Bonus points (not required):

  • Experience with crushing and screening equipment.
  • Familiarity with earthmoving equipment - excavators, dozers, graders, compactors, articulated trucks.
  • Experience with pipe installation or demolition equipment.
  • Welding or fabrication skills.

Why Kieswetter:

We're not a national chain. We're a fourth-generation family company with deep roots in this region - and that means the decisions are made by people who know the work, not a distant VP reviewing spreadsheets. You'll be heard here.

  • Company service truck.
  • Competitive wages based on your actual certification level and experience - we don't low-ball people who show up ready to work.
  • Benefits package including health and dental.
  • Overtime availability - this is a busy operation.
  • A team that respects the trade - from the operators on the machine to the people in the office.
  • Work in and around the Waterloo Region - Kitchener, Cambridge, Wilmot Township, and surrounding communities.
