Position Responsibilities

The School of Trades & Technologies is looking for a Conditional Continuous Appointment (Probationary) Heavy Equipment Technician Faculty Member to teach and develop curriculum in the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship program beginning August 4, 2026.

The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of the faculty and the college community, participating fully in activities undertaken by the program on and off campus.

Job Duties will include:
 

  • Maintain, develop and instruct the theory and shop components of the Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship program
  • Ongoing planning and curriculum review
  • Participate in school, program, and other polytechnic service committees
  • Program promotion and student recruitment


Red Deer Polytechnic's School of Trades and Technology is a multidisciplinary school committed to innovation, applied learning, and student success across a broad spectrum of programs. Required Qualifications
 

  • Alberta Journeyperson Certificate in Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years post-Journeyperson work experience
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
  • Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course topics to diverse students and learning styles


Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:
 

  • Experience teaching post-secondary learners through both in-person and online formats
  • Journeyperson certification in one or more additional related trades
  • Management or leadership experience
