Qualifications
What We're Looking For
We're seeking experienced tradespeople who are passionate about the industry and interested in helping others succeed.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Interprovincial Red Seal certification in Automotive Service Technician
- A minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent journeyperson experience in the automotive service industry
- Strong technical knowledge in Diagnostic Software Packages, Manual and Automotive Transmission Repairs, Air Conditioning Service and Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Servicing and Repair.
- Comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to safety, mentorship, and lifelong learning
Previous teaching experience or related experience in the delivery of educational program or training adults would be an asset, but not required. If you've coached apprentices, trained coworkers, or shared your knowledge on the shop floor, you already have valuable experience to build on.
NOTE: Two years of your training will be counted towards the educational requirements and cannot be included as part of your occupational experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Faculty salaries currently range from approximately $78,771 to $104,267 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
As part of the Institute of Skilled Trades faculty team in the Automotive Service Technician (Apprenticeship) program, you will:
- Deliver theoretical and hands on practical shop training along with classroom instruction
- Share real-life industry knowledge and troubleshooting experience
- Mentor and support students entering the trade
- Help students build the skills employers are looking for
- Promote and ensure health and safety practices and procedures are consistently followed in classrooms, shops, and labs.
- Work collaboratively with fellow instructors and industry partners
- Stay current with evolving technology and industry practices
- Participate in student advising, curriculum development, program promotion, committee work, and work placement support
This role combines shop instruction with modern teaching tools and blended learning approaches, including in-class, online, and off-site instruction, as well as occasional evening and weekend sessions.
Additional Information
As a condition of employment, you are required to provide proof of a valid Red Seal certification, including your Red Seal number for verification with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, prior to your start date.
As a condition of employment, Faculty at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status, all probationary, full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Faculty whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
Candidates selected for interviews will be expected to provide at least three recent occupational references. The successful candidate will be expected to provide official transcripts to show proof of academic achievements.
