Position Summary
Centennial College's School of Apprenticeships is looking for one engaging Professor to teach courses both theory in classrooms and labs within their Automotive Post-Secondary & Apprenticeship Programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the successful candidates will support students in reaching their learning objectives through class, lab and apprenticeship placements to reach their Diploma/Certificate program goals. The incumbents may also participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program accreditation, applied research initiatives, community outreach and on-going future program needs.

Responsibilities
 

  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Create a positive teaching environment
  • Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies
  • Use academic technology effectively to enhance and support learning
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources for students
  • Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
  • Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Maintain contacts with relevant industry and professional associations
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Attends meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and participates in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities


*Note: Due to program expansion and year-round delivery of programs, this position may have teaching assigned through the summer and on Saturdays.

Qualifications/Experience
 

  • Automotive Service Technician Certificate (310S) in good standing is mandatory
  • Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate in good standing is mandatory
  • 10+ years of apprenticeship in class and lab teaching
  • Experience with Apprenticeship Automotive Programs and curriculum
  • Certification in Teaching of Adults, or equivalent training and/or experience in a trades-training context
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressive, current and relevant technical experience as an Automotive Service Technician in air conditioning, engines, fuels & electrical, drive trains, suspension / steering and brakes.
  • Experience in course or learning materials development preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft word, excel, and Power Point
  • Proven communication (written/oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate expectations for students regarding learning outcomes and the evaluation techniques to be used
  • Strong team player
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
  • Ability to manage a classroom and lab settings
  • Strong relationship and calibration with faculty and sport staff
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative thinking skills
