Transdev Canada is hiring a Fleet Maintenance Manager for our Vancouver location.

As a Fleet Maintenance Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in supporting safe, reliable, and efficient transit service by overseeing fleet maintenance operations, shop performance, compliance, and team leadership. This is a hands-on operational leadership role where your technical knowledge, decision-making, and people leadership will directly impact vehicle availability, safety, cost control, and service delivery. 

In this role, you will oversee the maintenance of a large fixed-route and paratransit fleet, supporting approximately 160 buses and leading a team of 6 direct reports. You will work closely with operations, regional leadership, and frontline maintenance employees to ensure the fleet is maintained to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and reliability. 

What you'll do 
 

  • Promote a safety-first culture across all maintenance activities, shop operations, and facility practices.
  • Ensure full compliance with corporate policies, standard operating procedures, environmental requirements, and health and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular shop walks, monitor safe work practices, and address or escalate hazards as required.
  • Maintain and retain all required maintenance, safety, environmental, audit, and compliance records.
  • Schedule, administer, and oversee fleet maintenance activities, including troubleshooting complex vehicle and equipment issues.
  • Communicate vehicle availability and fleet status with dispatch and operations to support service delivery.
  • Oversee daily shop operations and support efficient workflow planning to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and cost effectively.
  • Review and manage vehicle off-road status, prioritize repairs, and support preventative maintenance planning to balance shop workload.
  • Lead and support maintenance personnel, including performance management, coaching, training, development, and workforce planning.
  • Handle employee concerns, performance discussions, disciplinary matters, and grievances in collaboration with leadership and in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure technicians are properly trained, equipped, and supported to perform work safely and effectively.
  • Manage inventory controls, parts processes, and quarterly physical inventory counts to support operational efficiency and accountability.
  • Monitor work order systems, KPI reporting, purchase orders, invoices, warranty documentation, and financial or budget variances.
  • Work closely with location and regional leadership to provide fleet status updates, budget updates, and operational recommendations.
  • Supervise facility upkeep, shop equipment condition, and building and grounds maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and environmentally sound operation.
  • Manage third-party service providers and support vendor negotiations as required.
  • Initiate and implement projects that improve efficiency, strengthen compliance, and reduce operating costs.
  • Support the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform hands-on work activities when required and complete special projects and other related duties as assigned.

What you bring 
 

  • Previous experience in fleet maintenance management or a similar supervisory leadership role.
  • 10+ years of vehicle maintenance and repair experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a shop environment.
  • Strong understanding of fleet maintenance standards, compliance requirements, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and develop technicians and shop employees in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing maintenance systems, work orders, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions in a high-pressure shop environment.
  • Understanding of environmental reporting requirements, spill response, and health and safety documentation.
  • Experience managing inventory controls, vendor relationships, and shop or facility-related maintenance activities.
  • Red Seal Commercial Transport or Automotive certification required.
  • Hold, or have the ability to obtain, CVIP Inspector and facility management certification.
  • Hold, or have the ability to obtain, a forklift operator licence.
  • Valid BC driver's licence required. Class 2 with air endorsement preferred.
  • Ability to work in a physical shop environment, including crouching, kneeling, working beneath vehicles, and lifting approximately 20 to 50 lbs as required.


Your location & schedule 
 

  • This is a full-time, non-unionized, permanent position based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • This is primarily a Monday to Friday role with consistent work hours; however, flexibility is required based on operational priorities.
  • The role requires occasional travel between sites as needed.
  • This is a hands-on leadership role and may require direct involvement in shop and fleet activities to support operational needs.
