Scope

The Engineering Technologist, Fleet provides technical and administrative support to ensure the effective planning, delivery, and ongoing management of the City's fleet assets. Working under the direction of the Fleet Manager and with operations staff, this position supports fleet engineering, maintenance, and capital planning initiatives that contribute to the safe, reliable, and cost effective operation of vehicles and equipment supporting municipal services. 

The role balances office-based technical work with field inspections and coordination with operations, maintenance staff, contractors, and other internal stakeholders. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy, completeness, and conformance with established standards, procedures, and policies. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Support fleet engineering and asset management programs, including planning, coordination, monitoring, and cost control
  • Assist with fleet replacement, upgrade, and preventative maintenance initiatives
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports, specifications, estimates, and related fleet documentation
  • Collect, analyze, and manage asset and operational data to support reporting, lifecycle planning, and decision-making
  • Use fleet and asset management systems to track asset condition, maintenance history, utilization, and lifecycle costs
  • Assist in field inspections of fleet vehicles, equipment, and related infrastructure for condition and compliance
  • Coordinate and review work performed by consultants, vendors, and contractors
  • Provide technical support to fleet maintenance and operations staff
  • Respond to inquiries from internal users and external stakeholders and participate in meetings as required
  • Maintain records, correspondence, and technical reports
  • Perform related duties as assigned


Qualifications

 

  • Completion of a one-year certificate in a discipline of Engineering Technology relevant to the position from a recognized post-secondary institution with 3 years' engineering experience with a demonstrated record of technical knowledge, skills and ability or an equivalent combination of related training and experience; OR
  • Completion of a two-year diploma in a discipline of Engineering Technology relevant to the position from a recognized post- secondary institution with exposure to relevant engineering work.
  • Knowledge and experience working with fleet and asset management systems (e.g., AssetWorks M5 or similar systems)
  • Strong dedication to working in a team-based environment and providing excellent customer service to internal user groups and stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, including data entry, analysis, and reporting
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret technical and operational data to support asset management and decision-making
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate technical documentation, reports, and correspondence
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with operations staff, consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a safe driving record
