About the Job
Are you a strategic thinker with a strong mechanical background and a passion for optimizing heavy equipment performance? Equipment Manager for our Grey Bruce region to join our team based out of our Hanover and East Linton offices, as dictated by business needs. Reporting to the General Manager, Aggregates Grey Bruce, you'll play a key leadership role in shaping the performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency of our mobile equipment fleet. From evaluating and purchasing new equipment to developing maintenance strategies and negotiating energy contracts, you'll have a direct impact on operational success across the region.
This is a dynamic, hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, industrial environment and enjoys balancing technical expertise with business strategy. Regional travel within Grey-Bruce will be required.
Salary Range: $105,000 - $110,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and coordinating maintenance and repair activities across divisions to ensure fleet reliability
- Managing shop operations including welding, fabrication, painting, repair, and tire services
- Overseeing shop financial performance, budgets, and cost controls
- Directing procurement of parts, supplies, and equipment to support operations
- Evaluating and sourcing new mobile equipment to optimize fleet efficiency and lifecycle value
- Resolving warranty and invoicing issues to minimize downtime and unnecessary costs
- Supervising major repair projects to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with best practices
- Monitoring natural gas and electricity markets to negotiate cost-effective supply contracts
- Assessing and pricing used equipment for resale in competitive markets
- Analyzing lifecycle costs and preparing reports to support executive decision-making
- Participating in management and operational meetings to align with company initiatives
- Managing annual repair budgets and forecasting capital replacement needs across divisions
- Managing 10 employees such as mechanics, apprentices and office staff.
Here's What You Need
- 5-7 years of experience in heavy equipment, truck maintenance, or equipment purchasing
- Valid G driver's license in good standing
- Post-secondary education (minimum: high school + 2-year college diploma or equivalent)
- Mechanical certification (310S, 310T, or 421A) considered an asset
- Experience in purchasing, maintenance engineering, or fleet management is an asset
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing cost-effective contracts
- Deep mechanical aptitude and commitment to safe work practices
- Solid financial and numerical analysis skills
- Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical issues
- Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Exceptional attention to detail and record-keeping
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
- Highly organized with a structured, methodical approach to workflow
