Location:

Hours:

Monday-Friday, with varying work hours based on operational needs

Pay Rate:

Base Rate for Licensed Technician- $45.96 per hour + $3.50 per hour position premium

Summary:

The Shop Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring fleet reliability, safety compliance, and operational efficiency. This role provides leadership and direction to shop staff while coordinating maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and support uninterrupted service delivery. The successful candidate will foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

As a Shop Foreperson, your duties will include but are not limited to:
 

  • Must adhere to Miller Waste Systems safety protocols and must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the shop.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coach all shop staff; fostering accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Ensure that all maintenance and repair work is completed safely, cost-effectively, and within established timelines.
  • Minimize equipment downtime and support fleet reliability.
  • Maintain records of all shop personnel, vehicles, equipment, and work areas with company policies and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve processes and procedures to enhance safety, productivity, and cost control.•
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, including surrounding grounds.
  • Collaborate professionally with Operations Supervisors and drivers to support operational needs.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, documentation, and maintenance files.
  • Support and ensure proper utilization of fleet maintenance software.
  • Provide limited coverage for the District Maintenance Manager when required.

  • Strong prioritization, planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, identify issues, and implement practical solutions.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities aligned with operational and safety standards.
  • Must hold and maintain all applicable licences, including a valid 310T Truck & Coach Technician Licence.
  • A valid G Driver's Licence is required; a DZ Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Positive attitude with strong work ethics and leadership qualities.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and grow with experience.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot faults.
  • Computer skills with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as required, including overtime, late shifts when operational needs demand, weekends, and holidays.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional travel, early start times, and late finishes.
