Shop Foreman 

Reporting jointly to the Branch Manager and the Area Manager of Maintenance, the Shop Foreman is responsible for the safe and systematic operation of a multi-bay maintenance facility. The incumbent will supervise 310T and 310S Licensed Mechanics, non-licensed mechanics, apprentices and other shop employees. The Foreman is responsible for planning the day-to-day preventative and post incident repairs of a large fleet of commercial vehicles, diagnosing and assigning all repairs for mechanical issues and problems discovered in various commercial School Buses and civilian class vehicles. The Foreman will be an expert within their trade, a strong communicator and will possess the ability to lead. They will provide superior customer service while interacting with various stakeholders including, School Bus Drivers, Dispatchers, Managers, Peer Mechanics, Apprentices and Governmental Agencies. 

Job Duties 

 

  • Lead a team of skilled trade professionals


 

  • Maintain an organized and clean shop


 

  • Monitor activities; mentor and train developing mechanics


 

  • Co-ordinate repairs and rentals


 

  • Supervise workers and projects


 

  • Co-ordinate and schedule activities


 

  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed


 

  • Requisition or order materials, equipment, supplies and parts through our established vendor network


 

  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve work methods


 

  • Ensure all vehicle inspections are completed in a timely fashion each month


 

  • Perform service calls and cold starts as required


 

  • Adhere to compliance-based regulations from a Company, Federal, Provincial and Municipal perspective


 

  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed


 

  • Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions


 

  • Maintain parts inventory as required and process warranty claims and assist warranty department


 

  • Review and validate work orders and close in a timely manner


 

  • Ensure compliance for all company and other required SOP's


 

  • Direct and support facility maintenance activities as required to maintain shop safety, organization and shop readiness


Qualifications 

 

  • Minimum 5 years within a fast-paced shop environment


 

  • 3 years leading a team or serving as a Foremen


 

  • Possess and maintain in good standing a valid 310T License


 

  • Valid Driver's License


 

  • Thorough working knowledge of Municipal, Provincial and Federal safety provisions


 

  • Practical experience in preventative maintenance practices, within the School Bus industry an asset


 

  • Excellent trouble shooting and diagnosis skills


 

  • Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative work environment
