The City of Abbotsford has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Fleet Services to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Director, Roads & Fleet Operations, this role ensures the efficient operation and maintenance of City of Abbotsford fleet by performing and directing the work and all duties to assigned employees, contractors and other workgroup categories in such a manner that the work is carried out safely, efficiently and expeditiously. 

The Manager, Fleet Services will implement and direct a fleet program that includes maintenance, repair, replacement, utilization and disposal of vehicles for the City of Abbotsford's Fire, Police, and Public Works Fleets. The Manager engages with contract service providers and other city work groups to ensure optimal maintenance & acquisition of all fleet equipment. Implement, and monitors programs and plans for preventative maintenance & equipment replacement. Oversees the administrative, supervisory and technical work in planning, coordinating and directing all Fleet Services operations. 

The successful applicant will possess exceptional leadership, communications and organizational skills with a proven ability to manage and motivate a team of staff. You are an innovator and have a technical and diverse knowledge of fleet, fleet management, business management, capital and operating budgets, planning, project management, vendor negotiations, emergency preparedness, health & safety regulations, Carrier National Safety Code Regulations and Motor Vehicle Act Regulations. 

The candidate will have completed the following:
 

  • Minimum two-year post-secondary Diploma in Science & Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Contract Management, Fleet Management/Maintenance, Operations, or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automotive, industrial or heavy-duty fleet management/maintenance, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory capacity, preferably within a municipal unionized environment. Equivalent experience and education will be duly considered
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with an abstract that shows a record of safe and responsible driving
