The Research & Development Engineer position will be responsible for managing engine tests at PERDC, coordinating the effort of Dynamometer technicians and trades, while interfacing with other areas and departments, including other engine plants, product development and quality, to successfully deliver the data and test results as requested. The position requires someone with passion for technical excellence and ability of work with a diverse team to ensure quality of tests and test reports.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
 

  • Engine Research & Development: Supporting and developing gasoline and diesel engine research, development, and testing.
  • Powertrain Calibration Tools: Proficiently operating various tools, including Automotive Technology Inc. (ATI) Vision and Engineering Tools Application Solutions (ETAS).
  • Exhaust Emission Analysis: Familiarity with exhaust emission analyzer systems.
  • Technical Reporting & Publication: Analyzing, interpreting, and writing internal technical reports, as well as publishing technical papers referred to in conferences and journals.
  • Test Procedure Execution & Development: Executing Ford Corporate Engineering Test Procedures (CETP), sustaining and improving test automation systems, and developing new test methodologies and Corporate Engineering Test Procedures (CETP).
  • Advanced Powertrain Research: Executing group research focused on direct injection, turbocharging, and combustion.
  • Data Acquisition Systems: Proficiently operate various data acquisition systems for collecting data in dynamometer test cells.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interfacing with Powertrain Engineering Research and Development Center (PERDC) engineers, technicians, and skilled trades, as well as Research/Product Engineers (Ford and its affiliates), to accomplish engineering, research, and development project goals.
  • Major Project Execution: Executing significant development projects, such as powertrain mapping to optimize Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH), performance, and emissions.
  • Test Facility Project Management: Executing large projects, including specifying, designing, procuring, field verifying, and final implementation of test facilities.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelors' in Engineering - Mechanical, Chemistry or Electrical(Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required).

Experience: 
 

  • 1+ years' experience in internal combustion engine development.


Preferred Requirements: 

Education: Masters' or Ph.D in a related field.

Experience: 
 

  • Experience in supporting and developing gasoline and diesel engine research, development, and testing, including specific research in direct injection, turbocharging, and combustion.
  • Proficiency in the operation of powertrain calibration tools (e.g., Automotive Technology Inc. (ATI) Vision, Engineering Tools Application Solutions (ETAS)) and various data acquisition systems for dynamometer test cells.
  • Familiarity with exhaust emission analyzer systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, write internal technical reports, and publish referred technical papers.
  • Experience in executing Ford Corporate Engineering Test Procedures (CETP), developing new test methodologies, and sustaining/improving test automation systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and execute major development projects, such as powertrain mapping for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH), performance, and emissions optimization, as well as managing large projects for test facility implementation (specifying, designing, procuring, field verifying).
  • Ability to collaborate and interface effectively with engineers, technicians, and skilled trades across various teams and affiliates to achieve project goals.
