The Role:
As a Joining Engineer you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing various joining and sealing processes within the body and assembly manufacturing process. You will ensure quality, efficiency, and adherence to corporate standards. You will directly supervise and lead a team of joining Inspectors. You will conduct regular job observations to validate performance and ensure process adherence.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Supervise quality checks of joints, including control process such as weld tear down, in-process joint validation, and adhesive bond evaluations.
- Serve as the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level 2 Coordinator and Trainer, responsible for training personnel and ensuring procedures are followed correctly.
- Ensure strict adherence to, and execution of, all established Ford Standards including Control Plan, Joining Quality Plan, and Sealer Control Plan for all joining processes and related activities.
- Conduct necessary Periodic Job Observations (PJOs) or similar process validation activities to confirm compliance and effectiveness.
- Perform daily review and analysis of process and quality data.
- Lead initiatives to improve and optimize joint effectiveness, focusing on enhancing quality, performance, and process efficiency.
- Lead and facilitate weekly meetings focused on reviewing joining process performance, joint effectiveness, addressing issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage personnel resources and develop versatility within the joining operations team through training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Coordinate with the production team on containment activities or corrective actions for identified issues to minimize impact on production and quality.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to deliver a robust preventative maintenance schedule for joining operations and collaborate on interim and permanent corrective actions.
- Address department health and safety concerns. Enforce compliance with government, industry, and corporate standards.
- Support the Body Department as needed, including but not limited to helping cover dimensional control, incoming quality concern resolution and maintenance.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- College diploma in metallurgical engineering or related field. ( Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience focused on joining and sealing operations with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Must be able to work all shifts; days, afternoons, midnights, and weekends.
- Immediate and confirmed eligibility to travel to the USA, if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or related field.
Experience:
- Effective problem-solving skills, including the application of 8D, Statistical Process Control, and DMAIC Project Methodologies.
- Ability to read prints, AutoCAD (Teamcenter preferred, 3D Modelling, 3D Printing).
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
- Lean Tools - 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping experience.
- TQM and Kaizen methods experience.
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) experience.
- Visual Factory Management experience.
- Knowledge of constraint management principles.
- Experience working in a leadership role.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
