We are looking for an experienced Claims Leader to join our growing team!

In this role, you will oversee and drive the performance of our claims operations. This role will provide strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure efficient claims handling, regulatory compliance, and outstanding customer experience.

We are open to considering candidates with mid to senior-level leadership experience, with opportunities to grow into expanded responsibilities.

If you are passionate about leading teams, improving processes, and making a measurable difference, this is your chance to step into a role that offers both challenge and growth.

What you will be doing

  • Inspire and support a team of Claims Supervisors, offering guidance, encouragement, and accountability to achieve operational excellence across property and casualty lines.
  • Serve as a primary point of expertise for claims, providing guidance on policy interpretation, quantum analysis, reserving, and technical issues. Take ownership of complex or high-value claims to ensure timely and accurate resolution
  • Drive process improvements by evaluating workflows and implementing solutions that enhance efficiency and collaboration. Build strong partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain positive relationships.
  • Facilitate large-loss review meetings, ensuring alignment on strategy, reserving, and resolution plans for significant or complex claims.
  • Address escalated complaints and respond to Ombudsman inquiries, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining a positive customer experience while protecting organizational integrity.
  • Mentor and support claims professionals, fostering a high-performance and customer-focused culture.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging risks to inform proactive strategies.
  • Manage budgets and examine data to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.

What you bring to the team

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in P&C insurance claims, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta insurance regulations and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to coach large teams and manage complex claims operations.
  • CIP or FCIP designation preferred; post-secondary education in business or related field an asset.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively interact with claimants, policyholders and legal representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and make informed decisions.
  • High level of attention to detail, organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and empathy.

How you will succeed

In your first year, success will mean establishing strong relationships with Claims Supervisors and team members, becoming a trusted authority on complex claims and technical guidance, and facilitating effective large-loss review meetings that align strategy and reserving practices. You will implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and customer experience. By driving measurable improvements in claims cycle times, accuracy, and compliance, and fostering a high-performance culture, you will position the department for long-term success.
