Job Description

The Team Manager leads and develops production and maintenance teams to reliably meet SQDCPME targets (safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, morale, environment). This hands-on role enforces Manufacturing Operating System standards, drives daily shop-floor performance, coordinates with Quality and Maintenance, and coaches Process Coaches and operators to resolve abnormalities and sustain improvements. The Team Manager ensures safe, efficient production while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Additionally, the role provides direct oversight of machining and tooling activities - including setup, tool changes, work holding, and finishing processes - and partners with the Maintenance team to plan and validate preventive maintenance (PMs), manage downtime and shutdown work plans, troubleshoot equipment issues, and maintain critical spares. The Team Manager champions machine reliability and tooling integrity, supports root-cause repairs and improvement plans, and ensures production and maintenance activities are aligned to maximize JPH, RTY, and overall equipment availability.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure MOS standards and standard work are in place and followed.
  • Drive daily SQDCPME targets (safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, morale, environment).
  • Coach Process Coaches/Operators; validate closure of abnormalities and PCAs.
  • Monitor production flow; allocate resources to meet plan and manage shift handovers.
  • Plan and coordinate routine maintenance tasks; verify completion and effectiveness.
  • Manage downtime/shutdown work plans and evaluate effectiveness of repairs.
  • Support machining operations: oversee setup, tooling changes, and grinder/hone/finish processes as required.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance/Tooling for maintenance work requirements and critical spares.
  • Lead CI activities (5S, Kaizen, visual controls) and support FPS.
  • Maintain Time & Data Management and production reporting; communicate results and recognition.
  • Drive machining optimization projects: reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and stabilize finish/hold processes.
  • Partner with Maintenance on root-cause repairs, reliability improvements, and tooling lifecycle management.
  • Develop CI business cases for capital/tooling upgrades and present ROI to leadership.
  • Mentor Process Coaches and lead cross-site best-practice transfers for machining.
  • Validate SPC/MSA results and confirm measurement/tooling integrity for critical processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline. (Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)

Experience:

  • 5+ years manufacturing experience
  • 2-5 years leading Lean implementation projects on the plant floor.
  • Demonstrated MP&L experience (materials planning, Kanban, VMI, MRP scheduling).
  • Proven supervisory/leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (automotive/powertrain preferred).
  • Proven track record delivering measurable JPH/RTY improvements and cost avoidance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Lean / Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent.
  • Proficient project management, change leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in unionized environments and supplier development.
  • Excellent coaching and servant-leadership style.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage crises, multi-task, and present to plant management.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) and manufacturing systems.
