The Senior Fleet Maintenance Manager is accountable for the strategic leadership, optimization, and performance of Lineage Canada's national fleet. This role develops and executes the fleet maintenance strategy to ensure asset reliability, regulatory compliance, safety, and cost efficiency across all transport operations. Partnering closely with Transport, Operations, and Finance, the Senior Fleet Maintenance Manager drives asset lifecycle planning, delivers continuous improvement in maintenance performance, and supports Lineage's sustainability and growth objectives. Success in this role requires a balance of strategic foresight and operational excellence - ensuring the fleet operates safely, efficiently, and sustainably while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration across Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Strategy & Performance
- Develop and execute a national fleet maintenance strategy focused on asset reliability, cost efficiency, and lifecycle optimization.
- Partner with Transport, Operations, and Finance to forecast capital and operating budgets, optimizing total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Establish governance frameworks, KPIs, and scorecards to monitor maintenance performance across regions.
- Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership regarding fleet renewal, technology investments, and replacement planning.
- Maintain, monitor and recommend fleet fueling solutions
Asset Management & Sustainability
- Oversee maintenance and repair programs for all company-owned, leased, and rented tractors, trailers, reefers, and chassis.
- Lead asset lifecycle management - from acquisition and preventive maintenance to replacement and disposal - ensuring alignment with operational demand and customer commitments.
- Manage warranty recovery, vendor compliance, and performance against service-level agreements.
- Advance sustainability objectives by improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and evaluating emerging low- and zero-emission vehicle technologies.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Implement reliability centered maintenance (RCM) practices, Lean methodologies, and predictive analytics to reduce downtime and optimize maintenance schedules.
- Leverage telematics and Fleet Management Systems (FMS) to identify trends, track cost per mile, cost per hour and drive data-based decision-making.
- Standardize maintenance processes and documentation across all Canadian sites. Align with Global standards.
- Identify and share best practices that improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across the national network.
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with Transport Canada, National Safety Code (NSC), and provincial OH&S regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability, ensuring that maintenance practices meet or exceed company and regulatory standards.
- Maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) to ensure audit readiness and continuous improvement.
- Oversee vehicle inspection programs, maintenance documentation, and preventive schedules to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Fleet Maintenance Managers, Coordinators, and Technicians across Canada.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
- Partner with HR to support talent acquisition, technical training, and succession planning for key maintenance leadership roles.
- Strengthen collaboration between Maintenance, Operations, and Procurement to align strategy and execution.
Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with OEMs, service providers, and parts suppliers across the country.
- Negotiate and manage national and regional vendor contracts to ensure service consistency, performance, and cost effectiveness.
- Represent the fleet function in customer, partner, and industry forums as required
Success Profile & KPI's
- National fleet uptime and availability meet or exceed targets.
- Reduction in total maintenance cost per mile.
- Improved ratio of predictive to reactive maintenance activities.
- Zero compliance or audit non-conformances (NSC, Transport Canada, OH&S).
- Achievement of sustainability and emissions-reduction objectives.
- High engagement and retention across the maintenance coordination team.
