Mechanic Apprentice (2-3 year)

Waste Control Services (WCS) is a private, locally owned, and operated recycling and waste management company offering solutions for sustainable management of all things waste. We provide collection services and consultation for both residential communities and commercial, industrial, and institutional organizations exclusively in the Greater Vancouver region. Our head office and shop are located in Coquitlam, BC, with two recycling yards in North Vancouver where we process recycling collected from our customers and offer secure shredding services to the community.

As a Mechanic Apprentice (2nd-3rd Year) at WCS, you will work under the guidance of our team of Red Seal Mechanics to assist in performing repairs and preventative maintenance on our fleet vehicles in a safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

 

• Assist in performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, including work on hydraulics, air brakes, clutches, transmissions, and heavy-duty diesel engines.
• Support inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems.
• Learn to use electronic diagnostic tools and assist in interpreting failure modes.
• Help estimate time and material costs and assist in requisitioning parts.
• Provide support on service calls for breakdowns.
• Help review and complete repairs noted on driver inspection reports.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area following company and health & safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

 

• Currently registered as a 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic or Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic.
• Class 3 driver's license with air endorsement is an asset.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Commitment to excellent customer service.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
• A team player who works well with others.
• Commercial vehicle inspector certification is an asset.
