ABOUT THE ROLE
This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of a wide variety of Regional fleet and specialized off road vehicles and equipment; performs preventative maintenance and inspects vehicles and equipment; documents all equipment and vehicle service records.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs, diagnostic equipment analysis, evaluations, computerised controls, and electrical/electronic repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment in compliance with legislation and standards.
• Completes daily work orders and provides input pertaining to preventative maintenance, servicing and repairs, inspections, parts, and emergency repairs.
• Performs roadside and offsite emergency vehicle repairs.
• Completes documentation ensuring all parts and services for compliance/standards.
• Prepares and maintains reports identifying inspection activities, deficiencies, and corrective measures.
• Inputs data for fleet analysis including vehicle history, licensing schedule, fleet assessments, etc.
• Assists with technical library for maintenance and equipment operating manuals, parts books, electrical diagrams, and legislative documents.
• Participates in the research, testing and evaluation of new vehicle products and technologies including emission reduction devices, alternative fuels, digital radios, in-cab electronics, etc.
• Provides input and assessment to determine annual replacements and disposal units, and provides written assessments as required.
• Assists in researching, evaluating, and providing mechanical reports to determine best replacement units and provides assessment on unit specifications for tendering process.
• Participates on committees, work groups, task forces and special projects, as assigned.
• Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Must hold a valid license as a (Truck and Coach Technician - 310T and Automotive Service Technician - 310S).
• Must hold Certificate of Qualifications from an approved College and valid membership in the Ontario College of Trades and Apprentices.
• Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience, with detailed knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle or municipal vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards including Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Highway Traffic Act and appropriate equipment maintenance procedures and legislated certifications.
• Valid Ontario Class "D" driver's licence and successful completion of "Z" endorsement within six (6) months of date of hire.
• Satisfactory Police Criminal Background Check.
• Demonstrated ability in the Region's core competencies.
• Basic computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications; knowledge of Fleet Asset and Maintenance Programs software, various vehicle diagnosis software applications as well as internet access.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fleet vehicles and equipment including Light, Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, specialized equipment, and vehicles as well as off road vehicles, communications equipment and GPS technology.
• Ability to compile technical reports, documentation, and forms.
• Physical stamina and ability to withstand lifting of tools and equipment, sitting, stretching and bending, standing, walking, occasional climbing, and work in all weather conditions including exposure to industrial workplace garage/shop conditions.
• Ability to travel to offsite locations, work outside regular business hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
