The Opportunity:

The Vehicle & Equipment Competency Evaluator is responsible for equipment and transportation compliance training through effective practical and classroom-based learning and on-site evaluations. This position collaborates with business units to ensure timely completion of required transportation safety training in alignment with legislation.

Responsibilities include:
• Liaise with departments and business units, providing guidance and assistance regarding the transportation compliance and equipment training program, including job-specific certifications and training requirements, timelines and related program safety and competency elements. 
• Responsible for scheduling and facilitating training throughout the year including transportation legislation compliance, specialized equipment and vehicle training (e.g. snowplows, turf maintenance equipment, street sweepers, including but not limited to) in alignment with legislative requirements.
• Assisting with monitoring and schedule required certifications and re-certifications to ensure employees remain current for required training. Ensure documentation of training is updated and filed in a timely manner.
• Conduct field evaluations on operator competency (ensuring demonstrated and observable ability to perform required tasks), complete documentation and communicate results and any required follow-up.
• Collaborate with the team to create and develop learning materials and processes, forms and documents. 
• Adhere to all related legislation, including compliance with transportation legislation, standards, acts and OHS legislation. 
• Stay abreast of industry best practices, updates, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

You Bring:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Education such as completion of a registered trade in relation to equipment operation and preventative maintenance, is an asset and supports the technical training responsibilities of this role. 
• Supplemental education in Health and Safety, transportation and/or safety related training would be valuable.
• Certified Transportation Safety Coordinator (CTSC) or Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP), completed, in progress or willing to obtain.
• Intermediate First Aid, Level C CPR and AED certification.
• Valid drivers license for Class 1, 2, 3 with a Q endorsement. 
• Certified Train the Trainer (TTT) in the following would be an asset, or willing to obtain:
o Fall protection
o Flag person
o Temporary Traffic Control 
o WHMIS
o Rigging
• Ticket or Certification to safely operate:
o Forklift
o Backhoe
o Loader
o Track-hoe
• Instructional Design and Delivery certificate (AMTA) would be an asset.
• Certified First Aid Instructor would be an asset.
• Operation Experience to safely operate:
o Agriculture equipment
o Turf specialty equipment
o Vac Trucks
o Snow removal equipment
o Road Maintenance equipment
• 3 years' or more experience as an operator and/or competency evaluator or a similar position.
• Experience using various snow removal equipment, construction/landscape maintenance equipment, light vehicles (up to tandem units).
• Experience operating heavy equipment (powered mobile equipment).
• Experience using various turf mowers, and small gas-powered equipment would be an asset.
• Knowledge and understanding of transportation legislation, standards, acts and AB OHS legislation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience facilitating/presenting.
• Experience evaluating and mentoring others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in establishing and achieving business objectives.
• Ability to establish effective, positive, and collaborative working relationships.
• Strong initiative and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
• Ability to quickly align with shifting priorities, work assignments and timelines.
• Ability to create and deliver training programs.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
• Ability to be a positive influence in a team setting.

Additional Information:

The role is a permanent full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week.
