Position Summary

We are looking for a licensed 310T Truck & Coach Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy trucks and equipment, including diesel, CNG, gas, and electric vehicles. This is a hands-on position that plays a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of GFL's fleet.
Key Responsibilities
 

  • Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems.
  • Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform other administrative duties as required.
  • Plan and schedule repairs in the M5 planner system and procure required parts.
  • Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedules.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Utilize a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
  • Provide and maintain the tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks on heavy/hydraulic equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Conform to all applicable federal, provincial/state, and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies and directives.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Stay current with industry technology through technical manuals, training seminars, and certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements
 

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma preferred.
  • Valid 310T Truck & Coach Mechanic License (mandatory).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic (waste, transportation, or construction industry experience is an asset).
  • Experience with diagnostic software is an asset.
  • Must be computer literate, with the ability to learn and work with fleet management software systems.
  • Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Valid driver's license (DZ or AZ preferred but not required).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to read and effectively use repair and parts manuals in English.
  • Skilled in operating vehicles and equipment required to perform job duties.
  • Physically capable of performing all aspects of the role.

Physical/Mental Demands
 

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment.
  • Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
  • Continuous visual and mental attention required (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment).

Working Conditions
 

  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • May occasionally be required to work at heights or in precarious places.
  • Work environment is typically loud and fast-paced.
