About the Role:

Join our team at ATCO Gas as an Automotive Technician (Mechanical Service Technician / Automotive Mechanic), where you'll be essential in ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleet. Under the expert guidance of the Supervisor, Fleet and the Team Lead, Mechanical, you'll undertake critical maintenance and repairs across a diverse range of vehicles and heavy equipment. This role is perfect for those who excel in a dynamic, safety-focused environment and are passionate about problem-solving and mechanical innovation.

What You Get to Do

 

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain various vehicles and equipment, enhancing their safety and reliability.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and preventative maintenance checks, prioritizing safe operation.
  • Perform annual safety inspections as part of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program, where applicable.
  • Skillfully install and remove Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) systems, adhering to strict government and company standards.
  • Manage and maintain detailed records of all repairs and work orders for compliance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate parts acquisition directly with suppliers or through company stores.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay informed of industry standards and new technologies.


What You Bring:
 

  • Must possess a Journeyman Certificate from a recognized Apprenticeship Program: Automotive Service Technician Certificate required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class 5 driver's license and an in-house Operators Certificate.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills, learning ability, technical aptitude, initiative, mature judgement and decision making, responsible professional work habits to perform the duties that may be expected by a service technician.
  • Ability to operate a variety of shop equipment and tools is considered an asset
  • Alternate Fuel knowledge is considered an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge with diagnostic equipment(s).
  • Strong communication skills, technical aptitude, and a commitment to professional development.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate, or the ability to obtain one as required.
  • Knowledge of alternate fuel systems is an asset.


Operational Requirements:
 

  • Flexibility to work in various weather conditions and participate in shift schedules and emergency callouts. 
  • This is a Safety-Sensitive position, subject to pre-employment Alcohol & Drug tests as per company policy.
