The Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing and administering standardized environmental programs to ensure compliance with Canadian federal, Ontario provincial, and local environmental regulations, as well as corporate policies and procedures. This role will focus on plant-level environmental compliance, Stellantis Industrial System (SIS) Environment Pillar activities, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, and continuous environmental performance improvement.
The position supports the achievement of world-class environmental performance by identifying, managing, and reducing environmental risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting initiatives that improve environmental operational efficiency and contribute to corporate cost savings through the reduction of environmental impacts.
The Environmental Specialist will report to the Canada Environmental Compliance Manager and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage routine environmental reporting and compliance activities, including tracking, inventories, surveys, data acquisition, documentation, recordkeeping, monitoring, review, and approvals.
• Manage environmental compliance requirements across multiple regulatory areas, including waste management, water and wastewater, air permitting, pollution prevention programs, emergency response, storage tanks, and stormwater systems.
• Develop, implement, and maintain environmental training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified, completed, and documented.
• Conduct and participate in regular audits (regulatory compliance, ISO 14001, and SIS), track findings, implement corrective actions, and communicate results to plant leadership and corporate stakeholders.
• Investigate environmental incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement or support corrective actions, and communicate findings and lessons learned to plant leadership and corporate teams.
• Support new equipment and process initiatives at the concept and design stages to ensure environmental regulatory requirements and design specifications are incorporated.
• Coordinate and support environmental regulatory inspections and audits, including communication with plant leadership and corporate teams.
• Assist with emergency response activities, as required.
• Identify, support, and implement projects aimed at improving key environmental performance metrics.
• Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the plant's Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001 (E2HS) and Stellantis Industrial System (SIS) Environment Pillar requirements.
The salary range for this role is CAD $75,000 to $95,000 annually.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Applied Science, or a related technical field.
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, consulting, or auditing environment.
• Working knowledge of Canadian federal, Ontario provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, including requirements administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).
• Experience supporting environmental compliance programs in areas such as waste management, air emissions, water and wastewater, stormwater, and pollution prevention.
• Willingness and ability to work any shift and additional hours as required to support plant operations.
• Ability to represent Stellantis professionally with regulatory agencies, contractors, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and strong work ethic.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare regulatory reports, procedures, and correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively with hourly employees, plant leadership, corporate teams, and external regulators.
• Proven leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and relevant environmental compliance or data-tracking systems.
Preferred Qualification:
• Master's degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian environmental legislation, such as:
o Environmental Protection Act (EPA)
o Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA)
o Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA)
• Environmental professional designations or certifications (e.g., EP, P.Eng.).
• Automotive or heavy manufacturing environmental compliance experience.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments to ensure regulatory compliance, successful inspections and audits, and the implementation of improved environmental processes and procedures.
• Experience supporting or maintaining an ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System.
