Job Description:

The MIG Gun Division (Bernard / Tregaskiss) of Miller Electric, an ITW Company, is seeking a driven Research & Development Engineer to join the Tregaskiss engineering team at our Windsor, Ontario facility.

In this onsite role, you'll be at the core of advancing our automated welding technology-contributing to the design, development, and validation of innovative products that define the future of our portfolio. You'll work hands-on in a collaborative environment where curiosity, technical rigor, and continuous improvement drive results. With safety and quality as foundational principles, you'll support new product development and sustainment initiatives while partnering across functions to bring ideas from concept to reality.

If you're ready to innovate with purpose and make a measurable impact, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of our automated welding product portfolio.

How you will make an impact:

Drive Innovation and Product Development

You'll contribute to the design and development of new automated welding products and enhancements to existing solutions. From concept generation and protyping to testing and validation, you'll apply strong engineering fundamentals to deliver reliable, high-quality designs. You'll support product line simplification efforts and ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance requirements. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you'll help translate customer needs and market insights into practical engineering solutions.

Execute Advanced Testing and Validation

You'll design and develop robust test procedures and custom test apparatus in alignment with industry standards such as AWS, ASTM, IEC, and NEMA. Conducting a wide range of laboratory testing-including validation, feasibility studies, compliance verification, and failure analysis-you'll generate high-quality data to inform design decisions. You'll document findings in clear, comprehensive technical reports and provide actionable recommendations to improve product performance and reliability.

Advance Technical Excellence and R&D Capability

You'll maintain and continuously improve R&D documentation, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and alignment with internal and regulatory requirements. Staying current with emerging technologies in GMAW and related fields, you'll proactively identify opportunities to incorporate new materials, processes, and design approaches into our product portfolio. Your curiosity and technical insight will help keep the team at the forefront of innovation.

Collaborate Across Functions and Organizations

You'll work closely with internal teams, including engineering, product management, operations, quality, and marketing-as well as sister companies within ITW on joint R&D initiatives. By fostering strong collaborative relationships and sharing technical expertise, you'll help drive alignment, accelerate development timelines, and deliver impactful engineering solutions across the organization.

What you need to do to be successful in this role:

Demonstrate sound knowledge of mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, and automated welding technologies.
  • Solve Problems with Rigor and Creativity
Use analytical thinking and structured problem-solving tools to develop effective, innovative solutions.
  • Communicate with Clarity
Effectively share technical information through documentation, presentations, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Manage Priorities and Execute Projects
Balance multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate to Achieve Results
Build strong working relationships across teams to drive alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Adapt in a Dynamic Environment
Remain flexible and responsive to changing priorities, technologies, and business needs.
  • Support Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce cost, and improve processes.
