Job description

Are you passionate about automotive restoration and precision craftsmanship? We are seeking a dedicated Apprentice Auto Body and Collision Technician to join our high-production collision center. This role is a direct pathway to achieving your Red Seal Endorsement (RSE), the national standard of excellence in the Canadian automotive industry.

You will work alongside elite Red Seal Journeypersons, learning to transform damaged vehicles back to manufacturer specifications. This apprenticeship provides the structured environment necessary to master structural repairs, advanced materials, and refinishing techniques required to challenge the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam.
Core Responsibilities

In alignment with the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS) for Auto Body and Collision Technicians, your training will cover:

Safety & Environment: Maintain a safe work environment by following OH&S protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuum systems.

Analysis & Damage Repair: Assist in assessing structural and non-structural damage. Learn to use computerized measuring systems to identify frame and unibody misalignments.

Structural Repair: Under supervision, perform cutting, welding (GMAW/MIG/STRSW), and bonding of structural components made of high-strength steel and aluminum.

Panel Repair & Replacement: Master the art of metal finishing, plastic repair, and the replacement of bolted or bonded body panels.

Surface Preparation: Learn the multi-stage process of sanding, masking, and applying primers and sealers to ensure a flawless finish.

Refinishing: Assist in color matching and applying basecoats and clearcoats in a downdraft spray booth environment.

Mechanical & Electrical: Assist in the R&I (Remove and Install) of mechanical and electrical components, including SRS (Airbag) systems and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibrations.
Qualifications & Requirements

Registration: Current registration with the provincial/territorial apprenticeship authority (e.g., SkilledTradesBC, Ontario Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship Manitoba).

Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of automotive construction and a strong mechanical aptitude. Completion of a pre-apprenticeship program is a significant asset.

Attention to Detail: An "eye for detail" and a commitment to restoring vehicles to their pre-accident safety and aesthetic standards.

Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods, work in awkward positions, and lift heavy components (hoods, doors, etc.).

Driver's License: Valid Class 5 license with a clean driving record.

Logbook Discipline: Diligent tracking of on-the-job hours and competencies to be signed off by your Red Seal mentor.
The Red Seal Advantage

As part of our team, your growth is measured by the national benchmark. Benefits include:

Interprovincial Portability: Once you earn your RSE, your skills are recognized in every province and territory.

Advanced Technology: Training on modern frame-pulling equipment, resistance spot welders, and waterborne paint systems.

Mentorship: A clear roadmap from Level 1 apprentice to fully certified Journeyperson.
