Position Overview:
Multimatic's Damper Design team is looking for a Design Engineer to develop new suspension damper products and support existing product lines. The ideal candidate uses a data-driven approach with creative thinking to solve problems, and enjoys the fast-pace of the automotive industry. This role requires product ownership from concept generation to high-volume production launch, while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Design Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate innovative design concepts to meet customer requirements, incorporating design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback in a wide range of manufacturing processes
- 3D modelling (Siemens NX) of components and assemblies within vehicle environments
- Drafting using GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and identifying significant characteristics
- Creating and maintaining DFMEAs
- Defining setup and reviewing results of CAE/FEA/CFD activities with Analysis Engineers
- Writing Component Test Specifications, working with Test Engineers to develop procedures and fixtures
- Coordination of validation testing, and tracking performance in DVP&Rs
- Hands-on assembly of prototypes, new concepts, or product demonstration builds
- Teardown and inspection to evaluate part condition and support root cause analysis
- Attend and support customer vehicle damper tuning events (international travel required)
- Generate ideas for VA/VE initiatives for new and existing products
- Support of production line ramp-up and troubleshooting (local travel required)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering
- 2 or more years of design engineering experience, at least 1 year in automotive industry
- Demonstrated ability to take design concepts through to production launch
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as needed to coordinate and manage activities with engineers, manufacturing divisions, customers, and suppliers
- Efficient in using CAD (NX preferred) for modelling and applying GD&T to drawings
- Experience using root cause problem solving techniques
- Understanding of vehicle dynamics and vehicle suspension architectures
- Knowledge of DFM for a range of manufacturing methods: stamping, forging, casting, injection molding, cold-heading, extrusion, powder metal, etc.
- Familiarity with industry grades of steel, aluminum, plastic, rubber, composites, etc.
- Experience in hydraulic systems, preferably with precision components
- Knowledge of control systems and electrical component integration is an asset
This job posting is for an existing vacancy. The total cash compensation range for this position is expected to be:
$57,658.00 - $107,000.00
