Who We Are
Kichton Contracting is seeking a motivated and adaptable individual to join our team. Kichton Contracting Ltd (KCL) has been in business since 1963 and is based out of Acheson, Alberta, Canada. KCL is classified as a medium-sized civil earthworks contractor. Our work ranges from residential earthworks, commercial site development, to industrial projects. Our services include grading design for all types of new commercial and industrial sites along with retrofitting existing sites to accommodate new site development.
Role
We are seeking a full-time Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician to work out of our Acheson shop and in/around Edmonton area sites. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience. He/she is hardworking, self-motivated and reliable. The role will primarily focus on on-road truck and trailer work with off-road ( heavy equipment) expereince as needed.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair various types of heavy equipment (CAT, John Deere, Hitachi, Komatsu) in a safe and efficient manner to maximize equipment availability and performance
- Conduct preventative maintenance and routine servicing on assigned equipment to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in equipment systems, and perform necessary repairs or replacements
- Complete accurate and detailed service and repair reports, documenting work performed and parts utilized
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to company housekeeping standards and safety protocols
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and operators to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of equipment-related concerns
- Continuously update knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies to enhance service quality and efficiency
- Attend and participate in regular safety meetings and toolbox talks, promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance within the team
- Ensure adherence to all company and provincial health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately
- Additional duties as required
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with both highway trucks and heavy equipment
- Ability to work independently and support shop operations as needed
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification or Red Seal certification
- Minimum of 5 years of previous experience working as a Mechanic in the Construction industry
- Valid class 5 driver's license (clean abstract)
- Able to pass a drug & alcohol screening
- Valid CSTS-2020
- Valid WHMIS 2015 certification
- Valid CVIP certification
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- 8-12 hour shifts (10 hours average)
- Overtime and weekends as needed

- OT after 8 hours per day and 44 hours per week (Whichever is greater)
