Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Fixed Operations Manager, the incumbent serves as a qualified technician capable of diagnosing problems and performing repairs in several or all areas. The incumbent must hold a journeyman’s certificate issued by the Joint Automotive Committee.

MAIN DUTIES:

- Perform the work described on the repair order efficiently and accurately, in accordance with the dealership’s and manufacturer’s standards;
- Determine the cause of any defect and perform the necessary repairs;
- Identify vehicle defects based on customer complaints and personal inspection;
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain the necessary parts;
- Inspect and road-test newly delivered vehicles to detect obvious damage or missing parts;
- Notify the technical advisor and/or foreman if additional work is required, if the described work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be performed;
- Install optional equipment requested by the customer or the dealership;
- Supervise the work of apprentice technicians;
- Notify the technical advisor as soon as possible of any incident that may have altered the appearance or condition of a vehicle;
- Report any safety issues to your immediate supervisor as soon as possible;
- Comply with requirements regarding the use of mandatory personal protective equipment;
- Perform other duties as needed and as directed by management.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Hold a valid driver’s licence;
- Hold a competency card from the joint committee;
- Demonstrate thoroughness, precision, and attention to detail;
- Be able to work under pressure during busy periods.
