The Area Manager leads a defined production/operations area (e.g., machining, assembly, test, or maintenance) to deliver safe, stable, and efficient operations. This role owns SPQRCE (Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, Environment) results, leads a team of salaried and hourly employees, and drives GMS/TIP and continuous improvement every day.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance
 

  • Champion a zero-injury culture; ensure compliance with safety rules, PPE, ergonomics, and lockout/tagout.
  • Meet or exceed plant targets for RIR/LWDC and maintain strong housekeeping and environmental compliance.


Operations & Problem Solving
 

  • Own day-to-day operations for assigned lines/cells to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
  • Provide assistance in analyzing and solving complex manufacturing problems using structured problem-solving tools.
  • Meet cost, schedule, and quality requirements for operations and small projects.


People Leadership
 

  • Coach, train, develop, and evaluate Group/Shift Leaders and hourly employees; address performance and conduct issues with HR/LR support.
  • Manage staffing, overtime, and training to ensure appropriate coverage across all shifts.


Quality & Continuous Improvement
 

  • Ensure processes deliver right-first-time quality and support BIQ4 expectations where applicable.
  • Lead GMS/TIP elements (visual management, standard work, problem solving, Kaizen) and maintain STS/TIS/JES for the area.


Cross-Functional & Project Work
 

  • Collaborate with ME, Quality, Maintenance, GSC, Launch and other functions to resolve issues and support changes/trials.
  • Assist in obtaining resources (people, equipment, tooling, support) needed for operations/projects.
  • Establish recommendations and action plans to complete projects and support plant/manufacturing objectives.


Governance & Decision-Making
 

  • Administer divisional and Corporate policies consistently and fairly.
  • Maintain control systems, budgets, and performance information needed to monitor the area and sustain a strong safety culture.
  • Exercise a high level of independent judgement and initiative within established objectives and policies.


Qualifications
 

  • Postsecondary education in Engineering, Operations Management, Business or related field, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing (production/operations or maintenance) with exposure to GMS/lean systems.
  • Proven people-leadership experience (setting expectations, coaching, feedback, accountability), ideally in a unionized environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable using data and standard tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, plant dashboards).
  • Effective communicator with ability to build relationships across hourly and salaried teams and cross-functional partners.


Compensation

The salary range for this role is $131,00.00 to $180,900.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
