Job description

We are seeking a motivated Apprentice Mechanic (310T), trucks and transport vehicles to support the Shop Manager in the repair and maintenance of our specialized fleet of commercial transport trucks and equipment. While we operate unique units such as power sweepers, brine units, and pavement marking trucks, these vehicles are built on commercial transport truck systems. Whether you are a Level 1 or further in your 310T journey, you will work alongside licensed Journeymen to gain the skills required for full certification in a fast-paced environment focused on safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities :

    • Mechanical Repair & Maintenance:
o Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of specialized commercial transport trucks and equipment.
o Repair or replace mechanical units or components as identified during inspections.
o Perform routine scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checks.
o Test and adjust units to specifications to ensure vehicles meet all safety and operational standards.
o Use power tools to complete assigned tasks and ensure all work is checked by a Licensed Technician.
    • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
o Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
o Use computerized diagnostic equipment and technology under supervision to monitor all repairs and maintenance.
o Review work orders and discuss findings with supervisors to determine whether to repair or replace units.
    • Operational Excellence & Compliance:
o Diligently record your hours and completed assignments to meet Skilled Trades Ontario requirements.
o Take immediate action to correct unsafe or defective equipment with direction from a Licensed Tech.
o Coordinate with other departments regarding operational and non-operational vehicle status to assist with scheduling.
o Complete detailed reports to record problems found and work performed.
    • Customer Service:
o Provide professional customer service and uphold our core expectation of service excellence.

Requirements & Qualifications:

    • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
    • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years in a related role.
    • Registration: Currently registered (or eligible to register) as a 310T Apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario.
    • Language of work: Solid communicator with a high level of proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
    • Licensing: Valid G Driver’s Licence.
    • Physical Capabilities: Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
    • Work Environment: Ability to work on-site in dusty, dirty, and noisy conditions.
    • Suitability: Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently or within a team.

Health and Safety:

    • Understand and comply with all Occupation Health and Safety (OHSA) legislation and regulatory requirements.
    • Proactively identify and correct any unsafe practices or conditions.
    • Ensure you are trained and aware of all hazards to perform your job safely.

    • Shift: Monday to Friday, 9-hour shifts (Morning, Day, Evening, Weekend).
