Position Summary:

The Contract Logistics/Fleet Manager will oversee all transportation and fleet operations for our Winnipeg facility. This individual must be able to step into the role with minimal training and assume responsibility for daily operations, regulatory compliance, routing efficiency, and the assist with the development of a newly hired Logistics Supervisor. This is a 6-months, full-time contract role.
 

  • Lead day-to-day fleet operations for the Winnipeg facility.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all company Health & Safety policies.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance for Manitoba commercial fleet requirements.
  • Mentor and develop the Supervisor and front-line leader to ensure effective driver management, coaching, and SOP compliance.
  • Support frontline coaching, driver communication, and employee relations in a union environment.
  • Support routing design, customer service issues, incident investigations, and unionized driver relations.
  • Work closely with Fleet Maintenance to prioritize preventative maintenance, repair planning, and equipment readiness.
  • Lead root-cause investigations of all injuries, incidents, regulatory violations, and customer complaints.
  • Lead the monthly analysis and reporting of operational spending variances, identifying trends and recommending cost-control actions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Customer Service, and Procurement to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Other duties as required.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • University or College Degree/Diploma in a related discipline (Supply Chain, Logistics).
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible logistics/distribution experience, preferably in the recycling or waste collection industry.
  • Previous managerial experience in a logistics environment required; fleet maintenance experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure regulations, NSC standards, and Hours of Service requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop supervisors or frontline leaders.
  • Experience working in unionized transportation environments is preferred.
  • Experience with ELD, telematics, and fleet management platforms (e.g., PeopleNet, Lytx) is preferred.
  • Able to deal with complex problems and multi-level communication across the organization.
  • Results-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills using sound judgment and analytical thinking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to implement process improvements quickly.
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong commitment to Health & Safety.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead without formal authority.
  • Must be extremely well organized.
