Job description

The City Fleet Generalist (CFG) is responsible for providing support to all positions within the city team. The primary focus will be support for city dispatchers and planners while monitoring the assigned fleet, looking and acting upon opportunities to improve Driver productivity, equipment utilization, inactivity at customer's pools and yard utilization. The incumbent will possess strong leadership skills and will utilize their dispatch and planning expertise to analyze and identify process improvement opportunities to create efficiencies within the city team. The CFG will work closely with all teams within Bison, continually assessing established processes by recognizing current and potential issues and needs. 

Specific Responsibilities include:

Core Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
 

  • Determine city pool requirements for the day and communicate to planning teams.
  • Support and/or complete yard audits while communicating/solving inaccuracies.
  • Audit planning sheets looking for cross dock opportunities in order to move equipment back to the correct region or free up equipment based on current needs.
  • Audit planning sheets looking for opportunities to improve planning efficiency and yard utilization.
  • Run trailer inactivity report and follow-up with CSR's to have empty trailers picked up.
  • Review available ABL equipment in the Edmonton City Network and advise on opportunities to direct them back to home locations.
  • Investigate trailer GPS location mismatches.
  • Act as an escalation point for issues within the city.
  • Provide coverage for lunch periods, sick days or vacation time for all city positions.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, on a daily or permanent basis.


City Operations Support:
 

  • Monitor the dispatch sheet, looking at drivers next plans to identify any potential late pickups or deliveries.
  • Update driver's ETA's within system to show accurate times for available power.
  • Monitor planning sheets to ensure booked appointments have been updated and follow-up with CSR's on any discrepancies.
  • Monitor company drivers while planning in order to control overtime.
  • Process satellite messages as required.
  • Dispatch and manage cartage company drivers.
  • Manage ABL carriers entering or leaving the city terminal.
  • Manage messages and emails from city drivers that are shunting.
  • Review previous days' late deliveries looking for root cause and highlighting any opportunities to the appropriate team.
  • Complete A30 pay in a coverage capacity.
  • Work with and coach the Driver group regarding process and changes while documenting in DIMS.


Operational Improvement:
 

  • Responsible for working with the City Manager to identify process and business improvement opportunities within the City Team. This will include gaining a full understanding of current processes and working with the Operations group to identify potential solutions and implement action plans to improve daily efficiencies.


Training: 
 

  • This involves assisting the City Manager with the general and specific training of all new and current city Planning & Dispatch staff. This includes: New staff as per the training schedule and Ongoing training for current staff as scenarios arise, or as they are identified by the City Manager.

  • 1-3 years of previous transportation or logistics experience is an asset.

Shift Available: Monday to Friday 09:00 - 18:00 with flexibility for weekend coverage.
