Job description

The Queen's Relectric Car Team, a student-led Smith Engineering design team, is dedicated to developing and advancing EV automotive technology. We provide undergraduate students with hands-on experience with sustainable innovation. We aim to create optimized electric vehicle systems to compete in an international competition and to give students experience working on industry-level projects. Furthermore, we strive to create accessible information for our wider community through the completion of research and technical projects.

Relectric will be competing at the Purdue University evGrandPrix, where we will be constructing an electric performance go-kart from scratch, focusing on functionality, energy efficiency, and race endurance. Our design will be paired with a design report documenting our process, to be judged alongside the kart's race performance. This event is a North American collegiate race that fosters technical growth in areas of electric propulsion, battery management systems, and energy efficiency. This competition encourages collaboration between institutions, industry professionals, and emerging engineers to drive innovation in clean transportation.

QRCT is looking for individuals with a keen interest in our work to contribute to our mission in a leadership role.

The Co-Captain oversees team-wide operations, such as the technical progress of our EV go-kart, and engagement with on- and off-campus stakeholders. This position is perfect for those interested in organizational strategy, fostering external relationships, and Relectric's overall success.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate Relectric's organizational direction and technical project goals to executive team members.
  • Manage internal timelines and allocate appropriate resources to achieve competition deadlines
  • Engage with the Engineering Society, alumni networks, and Smith Engineering to ensure that Relectric's operations are well-aligned with stakeholder interests.
  • Engage with off-campus parties, such as sponsors and local auto-shops, to advance current funding and/or sourcing partnerships.
  • Showcase Relectric's mission and technical progress at conferences, speaker panels, etc.
  • Provide technical support to sub-teams when necessary.
  • Provide business direction for Finance, Marketing, and Logistics teams.

Assets:

  • Strong passion for the automotive industry and sustainability.
  • Interpersonal and management skills.
  • Strong initiative skills with appreciation for long-term goals.
  • Strong understanding of Relectric's technical projects and ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of Mechanical, Electrical, and Thermal sub-systems.
  • Understanding of budget management, brand strategy, and marketing avenues for the team

Thank you for your interest in this position. Multiple candidates will be hired for this position, dividing responsibilities based on strengths and interests. We look forward to hearing from you and discussing how you can contribute to our goal of promoting sustainable technology adoption in the automotive industry.
