As a Fleet Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for reducing costly breakdowns, developing strategies to improve overall reliability and safety of over 4,000 vehicles and equipment and achieving high availability rates. Primary duties include:
- Analyze preventative maintenance and repair trends, failure analysis and propose recommendations to reduce maintenance cost while increasing vehicle and equipment reliability and availability.
- Lead, review, and approve mechanical engineering design of repairs or replacement components, alterations and modifications to vehicles and equipment. This includes required calculations as well as creation of CAD models and drawings for manufacturing.
- Inspect unit/component failures, perform Root Cause Analyses and provide recommendations to mitigate future occurrences.
- Participate in demonstrations and quality control inspections.
- Provide support to internal and external stakeholders for managing Fleet's oil sampling program; prioritize work on the engineering service request roster.
- Create new and revise existing preventative maintenance task lists and acquire new vehicles and equipment.
- Review and manage Fleet Services' engineering design drawings, technical standards and bulletins.
- Manage Fleet Services' compliance with National Safety Mark certification; analyze risk, feasibility and economic implications of repairs, alterations and modifications.
Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- You must have at least 5 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details .
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending required.
- Maintenance or Automotive Engineering experience would be considered as an asset.
- Experience working in a fleet environment within a municipal, processing, manufacturing plant or mining industry will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong project management and time management skills along with an aptitude for getting results while demonstrating good judgment and decision making.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on leadership and interpersonal relationship building.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit

Workstyle:
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level P3E $115, 464 - 144,330 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
