About the Dual Credit program (DC):

The dual credit program at DurhamCollege allows students to participate in post-secondary courses, earning dualcredits that count towards their high school diploma, as well as earning acollege course credit that may count towards a future post-secondary diploma,degree or apprenticeship.

Dual credits engage students throughexposure to college courses and culture while supporting their successfultransition to post-secondary education. Each year, over 2,000 area high schoolstudents take a dual credit program with Durham College. We are proud to be partnered with DurhamCatholic District School Board, Durham District School Board, Kawartha PineRidge District School Board, and Peterborough Victoria NorthumberlandClarington Catholic District School Board.

Position Information:

The Faculty of Liberal Studies' DualCredits at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professionalwho shares our commitment to increase secondary student engagement, confidenceand success in a college course to teach TFBA 1302 Trade Fundamentals BasicAuto.

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours perweek with varied schedules Monday through Friday during regular high schoolhours. The majority of courses are delivered as two 75-minute classes inalignment with the high school timetable and periods. Please note thatpart-time recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses are beingtaught and the need for faculty to teach. 

Academic starting wages are determinedbased on qualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire, theincumbent will receive a pay calculation to determine their 'step' placementwithin the pay range. Part-time professors teaching a dual credit course willbe paid on the applicable non-post-secondary wage grid which currently rangesfrom $72.56 through $128.86 per teaching contact hour.

Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which couldinvolve teaching at a high school located in Durham Region, or in some cases,on the college campuses. Duties and Responsibilities: 
 

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.


Qualifications:
 

  1. Automotive Technician diploma or Provincially Certified Automotive Technician (310S).
  2. Automotive Service Technician (310S) Certificate of Apprenticeship is considered an asset.
  3. Automotive Service Technician (310S) Red Seal is considered an asset.
  4. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) work experience as an automotive technician.
  5. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  7. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  8. Proven track record of life-long learning.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
  10. Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire.
