As the Leader of Fleet Maintenance, you will be responsible for the supervision and management of the 24/7, day-to-day operations of either an assigned Transit Service Vehicles maintenance facility or designated fleet maintenance functions that support system-wide service delivery. The position is responsible for the overall leadership, management, safety and operational direction of their assigned facility and/or key maintenance activities in Transit Service Vehicles. Primary duties include:
- Provide strategic leadership and guidance to staff, manage performance and recruitment, and support staff in achieving service commitment and operational performance, including administering corporate and business unit policies and programs.
- Direct preventative maintenance and repair program to minimize operational costs while maximizing fleet longevity.
- Prepare cost analysis, operational records and reports for senior management, direct a quantity and quality assurance program to maintain an acceptable level of productivity while elimination repeat work, downtime, and breakdowns.
- Participate in the development of short-term and long-term Transit Service Vehicle business plans. Gather data and provide input to operating and capital budgets, mange capital expenditures and annual operating budgets for assigned facilities and/or maintenance programs.
- Monitor manpower requirements and make staffing changes based on operational commitments or maintenance needs including altering, adding, or eliminating shifts to increase productivity.
- Evaluate new technologies and procedures, explore new business opportunities, and develop strategies to ensure that Transit Service Vehicles remain a leader in an ever-changing maintenance environment.
- Manage multi-level maintenance projects and take action to expedite their successful completion.
- Develop and maintain customer and vendor relationships, provide timely responses to outside vendors, customer inquiries, and/or complaints.
- Maintain relationships with ATU Local 583, meet with union executives, members or shop stewards to resolve conflicts or personnel issues, investigate worker complaints and participate in the grievance proceedings.
Qualifications
- A valid Journeyperson Certification (or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal), as recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, is required with at least 10 years of related experience in management of a maintenance facility.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Ability to strategically forecast, plan, and assess technical and operational requirements for the ongoing and future maintenance needs of Transit Service Vehicles.
- Completion of additional courses that include leadership development, communication and City Financial understanding and planning are strong assets.
- Success in this position requires the ability to communicate effectively with frontline Foreman, Tradesmen, suppliers, and other organizations and when necessary to technically assess the quality of work being completed by the frontline.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
