The County of Essex is seeking a fully certified Mechanic to join our Roads Maintenance team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Roads Manager, Maintenance Operations, this role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls on a wide range of trucks and heavy equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and uninterrupted service delivery.Why Work With Us?

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  1. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
    • Conduct regular vehicle inspections in accordance with Ministry of Transportation safety standards and requirements.
    • Perform repairs to trucks and construction equipment, including but not limited to universal joint replacement, rear axle repairs, electrical diagnostics, brake adjustments, brake lining and drum replacement, engine tune-ups and overhauls.
    • Carry out body and sheet metal repairs.
    • Repair and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, including overhauling salt spreaders and installing them on trucks.
  2. Technical Expertise and Support
    • Demonstrate competence in electric and gas welding.
    • Assist co-workers with scheduled maintenance and general repairs such as greasing, oil changes, battery replacement, wipers, horns, steering, and brake lights.
    • Apply thorough knowledge of complex industrial and mobile hydraulic systems.
    • Utilize and demonstrate experience with computer-controlled vehicle and equipment technologies.
    • Provide and maintain a personal master mechanic hand tool set.

What You Bring
Education & Certifications:

  •  
    • Certificate of Qualification as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T).
    • A/C repair and ozone depletion prevention cardholder.
    • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
    • Certificate of Qualifications as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) is considered an asset.


Experience and Expertise:

  •  
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience working with heavy equipment and trucks.
    • Experience with Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR) and Motor Vehicle Inspection Stations under the Ontario Highway Traffic Acts.

Other Requirements:

    • Valid and maintained Ontario Class "DZ" driver's license, with successful completion of the County of Essex driving test.
    • Availability to work all shifts, including rotational on-call and overtime, particularly to support the winter control season.
