Mechanic/Apprentice

The work consists of inspecting, repairing, adjusting, and maintaining vehicles, motorized equipment, and accessories belonging to the City.

In performing their duties on City vehicles, equipment, and motorized devices, the incumbent must be able to diagnose common causes of malfunction when these have not been previously indicated. In addition, they must perform, in accordance with industry standards, the mechanical work involved in repairing and restoring the unit entrusted to them to good working order.

Examples of tasks:

- Identify and assess mechanical defects, determine the causes, and decide whether parts need to be replaced, repaired, or remanufactured.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on engines, transmissions, and other components of the city's light and heavy vehicles, including snow blowers and mowers.
- Balance wheels and replace defective steering and suspension system parts;
- Perform minor maintenance work on the exhaust system;
- Replace cooling and heating system components;
- Diagnose and replace vehicle electrical components;
- Perform minor bodywork and paint repairs;
- Use oxyacetylene torches and perform minor welding;
- Perform inspections required by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec;
- Keep equipment and work areas clean.

Required qualifications:

- Five (5) years of experience as a heavy-duty vehicle or construction equipment Mechanic;
- Ability to read, write, and speak French;
- Hold a valid Class 3 driver's licence issued by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec with an F-M endorsement or obtain one during the probationary period upon hiring.

Status:

- Permanent position - 36 hours per week;
- Day shift: from Monday to Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
- Hourly wage: $43.75 per hour.
