Job Summary :
The Automotive Service Dispatcher is responsible for the strategic flow of work through the service department. Your primary goal is to maximize shop productivity and technician efficiency by assigning the right jobs to the right technicians at the right time. You are the "air traffic controller" of the shop, ensuring that customer vehicles are completed on schedule while maintaining high standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities :
- Workflow Management: Monitor the daily service schedule and distribute repair orders (ROs) based on technician skill level, specialty, and current workload.
- Efficiency Optimization: Track hours and actual time spent on jobs to ensure the shop is hitting its productivity targets.
- Communication Bridge: Act as the primary liaison between Service Advisors and Technicians. Provide status updates to advisors so they can keep customers informed.
- Parts Coordination: Work closely with the Parts Department to ensure necessary components are staged and ready before a technician begins a job.
- Quality Control: Ensure all documentation is completed correctly by technicians before vehicles are moved to the "completed" stage.
- Resource Management: Manage shop capacity, including lift availability and specialized diagnostic equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
- Experience: Minimum of [X] years in an automotive service environment (as a tech, advisor, or dispatcher).
- Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of automotive repair times, diagnostic processes, and technician specialties.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with Dealer Management Systems (DMS) such as CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or Shop-Ware.
- Critical Thinking: The ability to pivot quickly when "emergency" repairs or parts delays disrupt the schedule.
- Communication: Clear, concise, and calm under pressure.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-decibel shop environment.
- Frequent walking between the service desk and the shop floor.
