The Opportunity

The co-op student assigned to Fleet division will be participating in a co-op program formalized between the Town of Caledon and area school board(s) or other educational institutions with a focus on automotive, heavy equipment and/or truck and coach field.

This program has been designed to assist students to satisfy graduation requirements by attaining hands-on work experience through a co-op placement. To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in a co-op program through an accredited educational institution.

In this role, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

 

  • Job shadow technicians with routine maintenance and servicing of various vehicles and equipment, including light duty, heavy duty, and construction equipment. Maintenance responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Tire Maintenance
    • Fluid changes; greasing etc.
    • Clean and fuel vehicles
    • Administrative functions
    • Commissioning and decommissioning of new and pre-owned vehicles
    • Parts Inventory including sticking shelves
    • Housekeeping duties
  • To perform work as directed by assigned supervisor
  • To participate in all mandatory training requirements
  • Be responsible to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Town of Caledon Policies and Procedures


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a passionate professional:

 

  • Enrolled full time in an accredited secondary institution
  • Currently enrolled in a co-op credit course
  • Experience in safe use and operation of hand and power tools preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites and Teams at a minimum.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a sensitive environment
  • Student must be able to provide their own form of transportation.


Workplace Setting 

 

  • Primary work location would be Caledon Works Yard 2, located at 1763 Quarry Rd. (just West of Caledon Village). From time to time the student may be working out of Caledon Works Yard 1, located at 8820 Castlederg Sideroad.
  • Repair shop; working inside and outdoors at times
  • Required to stand for long periods of time and occasionally exposed to inclement weather
  • General environment consists of standard on-site office environment
  • Physical activity involves active movement (Inc. lifting, pulling, pushing), lifting up to 50lbs
  • Occasional travel to various town sites and external meetings
  • PPE worn on a regular basis (Inc. CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved green patch footwear)
  • Regular exposure to stressful situations. May be exposed to some conflict and emotionally charged situations
