Overall Responsibility:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing all aspects of cost accounting within AMTB Ingersoll Blanking facility. This role ensures accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting to support strategic decision-making. The Cost Accountant will maintain the standard cost system, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Additionally, the position supports budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with corporate financial policies and industry standards.

Accountabilities:

Standard Costing & Product Costing

 

  • Maintain standard cost system, including BOM accuracy and routing integrity, in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
  • Perform product costing and contribution margin analysis; support quoting and pricing reviews as required.
  • Coordinate periodic standard cost roll/updates and document assumptions (rates, overhead, scrap, labor, burden).


Cost & Variance Analysis

 

  • Prepare and analyze key manufacturing variances (material price/usage, labor, overhead absorption, scrap) and communicate drivers to stakeholders.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and partner with Operations and Materials on corrective actions and tracking.
  • Prepare recurring cost/performance reports as applicable


Inventory & Working Capital

 

  • Perform inventory reconciliations and ensure accurate valuation, reserves/aging/obsolescence, and scrap/chargeback calculations.
  • Support cycle counts and physical inventory; investigate and resolve count and transaction variances.
  • Prepare material claims and supporting documentation as required.


Financial Reporting & Close Support

 

  • Support month-end and year-end close, including inventory/COGS entries, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting packages.
  • Maintain and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts; ensure timely issue resolution and proper documentation.
  • Review and post AP batches ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Assist Controller with budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc analysis.


Fixed Assets / Capital Tracking

 

  • Track capital spending, additions, depreciation, and related schedules
  • Support capital justification for new projects


Cross-Functional & Compliance

 

  • Ensure compliance with corporate finance policies and plant quality/environmental requirements (IATF 16949; ISO 14001; update H&S standard wording as applicable).
  • Support internal/external audit requests and maintain strong documentation and control practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation or working towards CPA is an asset.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AS400 and CMS400 accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory management, and financial reporting.
