Join Our 2-Year Fast Track to Officer-Level Firefighter/Technician**
Fire Rescue International (FRI) - Alberta's only not-for-profit, 911-responding fire rescue organization --- is recruiting experienced NFPA 1001 Level II firefighters who also hold Alberta Journeyman Heavy-Duty or Automotive Mechanic Licenses.
If you are already a trained firefighter and fully certified mechanic, you qualify for our accelerated 2-Year Fast Track program - a rare opportunity to mergeyour trade with an advanced firefighting career pathway leading to leadership and command.
A UNIQUE DUAL-CAREER BUILT FOR TRADE-SKILLED FIREFIGHTERS
You already bring:
- NFPA 1001 Level I
- NFPA 1001 Level II
- Fireground experience
- A technical trade license (Auto or Heavy-Duty)

COMPENSATION (FAST TRACK PROGRAM)
Mechanic/Firefighter (Fast Track)
- Year 1: $67,029.00
- Year 2 remains transitional, with progression toward officer-level responsibilities
- Year 3: $82,093.00 (direct jump to full 5-year rate)
This means you reach top pay two years faster than candidates entering without NFPA certification
*WHAT WE PROVIDE (FULLY PAID "GAP TRAINING")*
Even with NFPA 1001, most firefighters did not receive the full suite of professional municipal or officer-track certifications.
Additional First Responder Operations:
- NFPA 1140 - Wildland/Urban Interface.
- EMR certification.
- Class 3Q license.
Hazardous Materials:
- NFPA 1070 - Awareness
- NFPA 1070 - Operations
Emergency Vehicle Operations:
- NFPA 1002 - Driver
- NFPA 1002 - Pump/Operator
Command, Leadership & Instruction:
- ICS 100
- ICS 200
- ICS 300
- NFPA 1521 - Health & Safety Officer
- NFPA 1521 - Incident Safety Officer
- NFPA 1041 - Instructor Level I
- NFPA 1041 - Instructor Level II
- NFPA 1021 - Officer Level I
- NFPA 1021 - Officer Level II
This training is 100% employer-funded - books, tuition, licensing and certifications included.
