The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated Digital Systems Engineer with expertise in transit bus fleets, battery electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and/or private fleet operations, and zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) transition strategies. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise and lead multidisciplinary projects involving fleet transitions, electric charging infrastructure systems, fleet management technologies, telematics, and depot management solutions. 

This role has a strong emphasis on developing and validating fleet specifications and data, developing fleet maintenance and performance plans, fleet pilot plans and ideally understands fleet commissioning and PDI activities for transit fleets and private fleets.

What you can expect to do here:
 

  • Lead fleet engineering efforts for transit and fleet electrification projects, including diesel, hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell buses.
  • Develop, author, and review technical specifications, functional requirements, and integration plans for vehicle systems, charging infrastructure, and digital solutions (Telematics, CAD/AVL, battery degradation modeling, Asset Management Planning, Depot and Yard Management, SCADA, IoT, Charging and Energy Management Systems, Interoperability).
  • Define system architecture and data flows between vehicles, digital platforms, and infrastructure to ensure seamless end-to-end integration.
  • Collaborate with clients (transit agencies, municipalities, private operators) to define operational requirements, transition roadmaps, and technology selection.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for ZEV deployment, considering lifecycle, resilience, and maintainability.
  • Transpose client needs into formal requirements registers.
  • Provide technical input during technical and digital workshops led by the PM, ensuring feasibility of integration choices.
  • Support procurement processes by preparing technical evaluation criteria, vendor compliance checklists, and contributing to bid evaluations.
  • Specify and oversee integration of charging management systems, yard management systems, SCADA, telemetry, and fleet management systems for real-time monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and IT/OT teams to ensure seamless infrastructure and system integration.
  • Define data architecture requirements to enable predictive maintenance, fleet optimization, and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Apply resilience engineering practices (redundancy, failover, cybersecurity hardening) and ensure modularity for system upgrades and updates.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover of digital systems, ensuring as-built compliance and system acceptance.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulatory frameworks, and emerging technologies (e.g., V2G, microgrids, AI-based fleet optimization).


What you'll bring to WSP:
 

  • Bachelor of Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in transit systems, fleet electrification, or vehicle systems integration.
  • Proven experience with EV charging infrastructure, energy management systems, vehicle telematics, or electric vehicle systems.
  • Strong background in drafting and validating system specifications and integration requirements for complex digital platforms.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, power distribution, data analytics, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Experience with IEEE 15288 is an asset
  • Knowledge of procurement, construction processes, and commissioning to support project transitions.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset
