Job Title Chief Truck and Coach Technician
Wage $35.65 - $38.56 per hour (2025)
Reports to Fleet Supervisor
Location Fleet Services (Lindsay, ON.) But work location may vary; travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes will be required.
Hours Normal working hours are 40-hours per week, typically Monday to Friday. Ability to be available for call-ins/overtime and to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour day a week basis, rotational on-call, carrying a pager/cell phone as required.
Essential Duties
• Provide assistance in the scheduling of equipment maintenance and repairs, including estimating timelines, coordinating order of priority, ensuring inventory availability and recommending follow up
• Record work activities using a computerized work order tracking system
• Assist with training, directing, scheduling and delegating operational activities, ensuring productivity, quality of work, safety and efficiency as required by the Supervisor
• Diagnosis and repair of equipment's on board computer management systems
• Operate various City owned equipment for the purpose of testing and diagnosing repairs
• Assist in the maintenance of preventative maintenance records, and inventory records, for all equipment using maintenance records software
• Following regular service scheduling for all equipment, assist Supervisor in coordinating preventative maintenance activities in workflow
• Promote and ensure compliance with safe work practices in keeping with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, corporate policies/procedures and applicable legislation
• Inspect, service, maintain, repair, and overhaul a variety of automotive, light truck, heavy-duty truck, transit buses and miscellaneous support equipment. This includes emergency vehicles such as ambulances and police vehicles
• Inspect, service, maintain and repair engines, transmissions, transaxles, and differentials, fuel injected and carbureted fuel systems and related emission components, machine brake systems and components and electrical circuits
• Install emergency light and sound equipment, perform inspection and repair of automotive, light truck, and heavy-duty truck suspensions and components, hydraulic systems and components
• Operate shop equipment and machine tools such as pedestal grinders, power hacksaws, drill presses, battery and charging system testers, emission analyzers, welding and cutting equipment, and other common automotive shop equipment
• Observe and comply with toxic waste and hazardous material handling and disposal as set forth by local, and federal health agencies
• Work safely in compliance with safe work practices in keeping with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, corporate policy, procedures and applicable legislation
• Perform all duties applying customer service techniques in support of departmental objectives
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Secondary School Diploma
• Possession of a 310T and a 310S license
• Minimum 5 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
• Experience in a supervisory position
• Ability to research and implement innovative and cost effective operational procedures
• Excellent leadership, administration, interpersonal and communication skills with a proven focus on customer service
• Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
• Demonstrated ability to function well as a contributing member of a service delivery team
• Possess analytical, problem solving and mechanical skills
• Demonstrated time management skills with ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities quickly and effectively, to maintain compliance and meet deadlines
• Proven interpersonal skills and communication skills both written and verbal
• Sound working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS and experience working in a unionized environment
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
• Ability to exert up to 22.2 kg (50 lbs) of force occasionally, and/or up to 8.9 kg (20 lbs) of force frequently, and/or up to 4.4 kg (10 lbs) of force constantly to move objects
• Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "D" Driver's Licence with "Z" endorsement and acceptable driving record
• Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required.
Training
