Purpose
The Light Vehicle Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for a fleet of light vehicles. This role ensures optimal vehicle uptime, safety compliance, and cost efficiency by planning and tracking all maintenance activities in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all light vehicles.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance with internal technicians or external service providers.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer maintenance intervals, warranty requirements, and legal standards (e.g., inspections, emissions tests).
- Monitor vehicle usage data and maintenance history to predict and prevent potential failures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and costs using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or fleet management software.
- Liaise with external vendors, workshop supervisors, parts coordinators, and procurement staff to ensure timely availability of parts and services.
- Analyze maintenance trends and prepare regular reports on vehicle availability, downtime, and maintenance KPIs.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize maintenance processes, reduce costs, and enhance fleet reliability.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance in all maintenance planning activities.
- Co-ordinate maintenance activities between the Maintenance and Production front line supervisors.
- Creation of work orders for planned jobs & PM's.
- Manage all Corrective and Preventative work orders.
- Prepare AFEs for Capital Budgeted expenditures related to asset replacement.
- Aid with the preparation of annual budgets.
- Preparing monthly reports that include cost to date and work completed or outstanding for the month.
- Implementing processes and systems to aid with planning functions and other duties as assigned.
- With support for the procurement team manage the fleet lease agreement.
- Develops and maintains a long term light vehicle replacement strategy.
- With the site maintenance leadership teams reviews the needs to perform light vehicle on site versus at an external vendor.
- Follows up on work being performed at external vendor's location
Health & Safety Accountabilities
- Ensure the maintenance programs are established and implemented so equipment operates according to company, federal, provincial and municipal standards.
- Safety is always to be considered when work is planned.
- Include any special safety considerations when jobs are planned (confined space, lock out requirements, non-routine hazardous tasks, etc.).
- Promote and adhere to Discovery - Porcupine's environmental and sustainability polices.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with external agencies (i.e. MOL, MOE, WSN,).
- Work closely with the area supervisor and safety coordinators to create a plan that will incorporate safety into work procedures
Training and Education
- Maintenance Technician/Technologist, Certified tradesman, or a combination of education (graduate of college Maintenance Program) and work experiences.
- Computer literate with specific knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, and MS Project.
- 5 years of underground or open pit mining equipment maintenance planning related experience.
- 10 years experience in the mechanical discipline.
- Knowledge of light vehicle maintenance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in maintenance planning using computerized maintenance software.
- Cost and Budgeting skills
- Must have good organizational skills, problem solving ability and familiarity with maintenance terminology.
- Experience in predictive maintenance utilizing oil analysis, vibration analysis, & ND testing.
- Must develop light vehicle replacement schedule based on history of equipment with forecasts to support budgeting processes
- Must perform critical parts review for key equipment.
- Must have project management skills
