Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, Fleet and Supplies, the Mechanic I/II is responsible for a wide range of inspection, corrective and preventative maintenance activities designed to maintain the municipal fleet of vehicles and equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair a variety of automotive and heavy equipment (e.g., pick-ups, trucks, construction and winter maintenance equipment, parks and road maintenance equipment)
- Perform regular maintenance, make adjustments related to mechanical and computer electronic controls, engines, transmissions and brake systems
- Maintain an accurate service log of activities in Maximo
- Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Automotive Service Technician (310S and/or 310T) Certificate
- Eligible to be a motor vehicle inspection mechanic with the MTO
- Propane Training Certificate
- Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service Certificate
- Minimum 5 years' consecutive experience maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles, including small engines, (municipal fleet maintenance experience is an asset)
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of onboard vehicle computerized systems, electrical systems, heavy equipment (e.g., snow plows, sanders, backhoes, etc.); air and hydraulic brakes and hydraulic systems (pumps/cylinders).
- Ability to use electronic monitoring and diagnostic equipment
- Familiarity with computers and other electronic devices, including hydraulic systems
- Ability to operate cutting torches, electric arc welder and MIG welder
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Available for rotating standby and potential alternate shifts in accordance with the provisions contained within the CUPE Collective Agreement
- Must possess own hand tools; an annual tool allowance is provided
- Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
