Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic) to join our team in Ponoka, Alberta. In this position you will play a pivotal role in maintaining our essential fleet of vehicles and equipment, directly contributing to safe and efficient highway operations.
Who we are:
Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP, an employee-owned company and a proud member of the Mainroad Group, holds significant highway maintenance contracts with the Government of Alberta Transportation. We are responsible for overseeing 4,600 kilometers of provincial highways across the Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer, and Wetaskiwin areas. We are COR certified and active members of the Alberta Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA) and the Alberta Public Works Association.

What you bring:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- An Alberta Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial Ticket as a Mechanic (Heavy Equipment Technician preferred).
- A minimum of three years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic).
- Completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) or the ability to complete it within three months.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (Class 3 with airbrake endorsement preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining and repairing highway maintenance and snow removal equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
- The ability to work various shifts, be available for call-outs, and work weekends and overtime as required.
- Willingness to work effectively in extreme weather conditions.
- Capability to perform heavy physical labor safely.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively mentor an apprentice.
- Excellent ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- A positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A safety-conscious, dedicated, and committed approach to your work.
This role involves a range of job duties, which include, but are not limited to:
- Performing comprehensive repairs and maintenance on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment, adhering to established standards and safety protocols.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills to effectively handle all aspects of heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Providing exceptional cooperation, service, and respect to co-workers, customers, and the general public.
- Coaching and mentoring apprentices and other assigned employees, fostering a culture of shared learning and development.
- Ensuring the completion of accurate and timely records and reports as required by company policies and guidelines.
- Being accountable for all assigned tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained and accounted for.
- Performing other related duties and special assignments as required to support operational needs.
